Energy Efficiency Education Program

GENERATION E

This generation cares about saving energy

Today’s youth are more environmentally conscious than any generation before them. They know that collectively, their individual actions can make a big impact.

This generation of students will transform the way we think about energy and sustainability. That’s why we offer an initiative for teachers and students — Generation E. We provide classroom-friendly resources, hands-on activities, and lesson plans that teachers can use to help their students understand their energy use and empower youth to create change among their family, friends, and community.

Designed for students & teachers

We offer resources for multiple age groups on the Generation E website

  • Kindergarten to Grade 5: activity books, colouring pages, and other resources to explain what energy is and why it’s important to use less of it
  • Grade 6: learning sheets, games, and group activities to help introduce students to the concept of energy efficiency and identify ways to save energy
  • Grade 9: assignments that encourage independent learning, like cost-benefit calculations and a home energy review, to help students better understand their energy use and how to create more energy-efficient spaces

Over time, we’ll expand the Generation E initiative to offer more educational resources for more age groups.

GET YOUR CLASS INVOLVED

We’re here to help teachers bring up-to-date and engaging information about energy efficiency into their classrooms. If you’re a K-12 teacher and are interested in getting your classroom involved in the Generation E movement, visit the Generation E website or get in touch by emailing us. Our team will help you access the resources, lesson plans, and presentations you need to empower and educate your students. Our Outreach and Engagement Coordinator is also available to come to your classroom to give a free presentation in French or English.

ARE YOU A PARENT?

We encourage you to have conversations about energy efficiency with the children in your life. This can be as simple as explaining what energy efficiency is about — using less energy to do the same job and getting the same or a better result — and discussing the negative consequences of not using energy efficiently, like energy waste, higher energy bills, and climate change.

Need some ideas? This checklist has some easy tips to help the young people in your life start saving energy. If you want to get your student involved in Generation E, tell their teacher about the initiative and ask them to contact us at hello@generation-e.ca for more information.

In-Suite Efficiency Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

IN-SUITE ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM

Here are some answers to common questions about our In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program:

My building has already participated in Manitoba Hydro’s Water & Energy Saver Program (or Lighting Program for MURBs or Affordable Energy Program for MURBs). Can my building still participate in the In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program?

Yes, your building is eligible for our In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program. However, you’d only be eligible to receive energy-efficient devices that weren’t already installed in your building’s suites. For example, if energy-efficient showerheads are already installed and in working order, we wouldn’t replace them with new energy-efficient showerheads.

Can new buildings participate?

Newly constructed buildings aren’t eligible to participate. The In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program is designed as a full-service retrofit program, tailored to meet the needs of existing buildings. Buildings must be occupied for a minimum of 36 months in order to qualify.

I’m a tenant in an apartment building. How do I participate?

The In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program is delivered at the building level, so your property manager, building owner, or condo board would need to apply on behalf of the entire building for all suites. We recommend getting in touch with your building’s management to let them know about this opportunity.

I’m the owner of a duplex (or triplex). Can my duplex (or triplex) participate?

Buildings must have four or more suites in order to qualify for the In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program. For buildings with less than four suites, check out our residential offers.

Are bulk-metered and sub-metered buildings eligible to participate?

Yes, bulk-metered and sub-metered buildings are eligible.

Can you ship the products to me so I can install them in the suites myself?

Unfortunately, no. The In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program is a full-service program, meaning our service provider CLEAResult Canada will supply and install the products for you.

Basic Upgrade items are installed by CLEAResult Canada technicians. Premium Upgrade items (smart thermostats and advanced HRV controls) are installed by one of CLEAResult Canada’s subcontracted certified electricians. Having the Premium Upgrade products installed by an electrician ensures they’re programmed correctly to save you the most energy!

Can I have any model of smart thermostat or advanced HRV control installed through the Premium Upgrade?

The In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program currently only offers incentives for the supply and install of the Smart Thermostat Essential by ecobee and the Venmar Advanced Touchscreen Control by Broan NuTone. If you prefer to install a different make or model, it won’t be eligible for incentives through the program and must be arranged independently.

Can I use my own electrician to install the Premium Upgrades?

Unfortunately, no. Premium Upgrade installations are arranged by CLEAResult Canada and installed by one of their local subcontracted certified electricians.

Is there warranty on these products?

Yes; all products offered through the In-Suite Energy Efficiency Program come with warranty. There’s a 90-day warranty on all services and installations, a 5-year product warranty on LED bulbs, a 10-year product warranty on showerheads and aerators, and a 15-year limited product warranty on the Embertec advanced power strips.

I just participated in the program and some of the showerheads and/or aerators are leaking. What should I do?

We’re sorry to hear you’re having issues! Please contact CLEAResult Canada by email at insuite@clearesult.com or by phone at 1-877-326-3488 (when prompted, select option 4 for Manitoba, then 1 for residential) to remedy the issue. If your products were installed within the last 90 days, they’ll send a technician out to see what’s going on. If your products were installed more than 90 days ago, but within the product warranty period, your product may be defective, and you may be eligible for a replacement product through the manufacturer’s warranty.

Where can I learn about my advanced power strip’s operation, features, and warranty?

To learn more about your Embertec advanced power strip, please refer to the detailed product manual, which includes step-by-step installation instructions and warranty information.

For instructional videos and additional product support, visit the Embertec website or call them at 1-800-838-9659.

Where can I learn about my smart thermostat’s operation, features, and warranty?

The electrician who installs your Smart Thermostat Essential by ecobee will get you started with basic setup and registration. To learn more, visit the ecobee website and check out their installation information

For questions about your ecobee’s features or product warranty, please refer to ecobee’s support page, or call their support team at 1-877-932-6233.

Where can I learn about my advanced HRV control’s operation, features, and warranty?

The electrician who installs your Venmar Advanced Touchscreen Control by Broan NuTone will get you started with basic setup. To learn more, visit the Broan NuTone website, including their customer service page and installation guide.

For questions about your advanced HRV control’s features or product warranty, please refer to Broan NuTone’s customer service page, or contact their customer service team at 1-800-567-3855.

Who can I contact with questions about my installation warranty?

For questions about your installation warranty, please contact CLEAResult Canada by email at insuite@clearesult.com or by phone at 1-877-326-3488 (when prompted, select option 4 for Manitoba, then 1 for residential).

Bioenergy

Bioenergy

Bioenergy is a unique and renewable energy source that can reduce your energy bills and provide other environmental benefits.

We provide financial assistance for pre-project studies and financial incentives for the implementation of commercial scale bioenergy systems that demonstrate natural gas or electricity savings.*

We’ll consider the use of any organic matter, including wood chips and pellets, as the biomass fuel. Only commercial, agricultural, and industrial projects that demonstrate natural gas or electricity savings will be considered, either through offsetting space, water, or process heating energy consumption or generating electricity to be used on site. Bioenergy can also be a useful way to address your waste disposal requirements if that organic waste can be converted to energy.

*Minimum savings of 50,000 kWh or 20,000 m3 are required. For projects intending to offset space heating, the heated space must be more than 10,000 square feet.

STEPS TO PARTICIPATE

  1. COMPLETE THE PROJECT QUESTIONNAIRE

Help us determine eligibility by completing this questionnaire. You’ll be asked to provide details about your operations and the proposed project.

  2. DISCUSS NEXT STEPS

We’ll review your questionnaire and work with you to determine next steps.

    • If your project is expected to realize electricity or natural gas savings and you’ve identified the type, availability, cost of your biomass, and the equipment needed, you may qualify for a study incentive. If so, we’ll ask you to submit a feasibility study proposal that will examine the project economics and the expected energy and utility bill savings.

    • If you’ve already quantified the project economics, including energy savings, and no further studies are needed, you may qualify for an incentive. Based on the energy savings your bioenergy system is expected to produce, we’ll work with you to help you move through the incentive application process.

  • Your application and invoice is received within 90 days of product install and payment in full.
  • Your products are being installed in your or your tenant’s primary residence (commercial and seasonal properties aren’t eligible).
  • Windows and doors must replace existing windows and doors between an unheated space (e.g. outdoors) and a heated space.
  • Rebates are based on the number of qualifying rough openings in which windows or doors were replaced. Each rough opening is counted as one window or door. For example, a bay window, which may be made up of several window sections, is counted as one qualifying rough opening.

PROJECTS THAT AREN’T ELIGIBLE

  • Garages, three-season sunrooms, porches, or verandas
  • Seasonal homes or cottages
  • Apartments, vacation rentals, and outbuildings – apartment buildings may be eligible for window and door rebates through our Building Envelope Program

Customer Bonus

What’s the Customer Bonus?

We’re increasing our current incentives by 50% for Business Lighting Program applications completed before March 31, 2027.

When does the Customer Bonus start?

Right now! All projects completed between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2027 will be eligible for the Customer Bonus.

How’s the Customer Bonus calculated?

Once a project is complete, we’ll take the total project incentive and add 50% to the total.

Who will the Customer Bonus be sent to?

The additional 50% incentive will be added to the application incentive and sent by cheque to the Building Owner (or the designated payee indicated on the Completion Declaration).

Will I still get the Customer Bonus if I have an existing application that was already approved?

Yes! As long as the project is completed, with paperwork submitted, by March 31, 2027, you’ll be eligible for the Customer Bonus.

I just completed a project. Can I still get the Customer Bonus?

What’s the Supplier Bonus?

We’re giving a $100 bonus to registered suppliers for every BLP application they complete, on behalf of a customer, before March 31, 2027.

When does the Supplier Bonus start?

Right now! All projects completed between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2027 will be eligible for the Supplier Bonus.

Who will the Supplier Bonus be sent to?

The Supplier Bonus cheque will be sent to the individual (not the company) who submitted the application.

Will I still get the Supplier Bonus if I have an existing application that was already approved?

Yes! As long as the project is completed, with paperwork submitted, by March 31, 2027, you’ll be eligible for the Supplier Bonus.

I just completed a project. Can I still get the Supplier Bonus?

Unfortunately, we can’t provide Supplier Bonuses for projects that have already been paid.

Can I receive multiple Supplier Bonuses?

Yes! However, only one Supplier Bonus will be paid per project. If there are multiple project applications for one address, the Supplier Bonus eligibility will be reviewed by Efficiency Manitoba.

Will a customer get the Supplier Bonus if they submit the application themselves?

No, the Supplier Bonus is only available to registered suppliers who submit an application on behalf of a building owner.

What if I’m not a registered supplier?

If you aren’t a registered Efficiency Manitoba supplier, it’s not too late! As long as you submit a supplier registration form before the project is complete, you’ll still receive your Supplier Bonus.

What if a different supplier started the application, but I’m completing it?

By default, we send the cheque to the registered supplier who submitted the application. If the contact name or address of the registered supplier has changed since the application was first submitted, please provide us with updated mailing information by sending us an email or adding a note to your myEM account.

What if multiple suppliers worked on one project?

By default, we send the cheque to the registered supplier who submitted the application. If the Supplier Bonus should go elsewhere or you’d like to split it, let us know and we can work something out.
