Solar Rebates For Your Home

Solar Rebates For Your Home

GENERATE YOUR OWN DAYTIME ELECTRICITY

When it comes to renewable energy sources, the sun is high on the list. Harnessing the sun’s rays through solar photovoltaic (PV) creates clean, reusable electricity that lowers your energy bill and the need for traditional energy sources during daylight hours.

BENEFITS OF A SOLAR PV SYSTEM

There are many benefits to installing a solar PV system.

  • You can save money on your energy bill by reducing your daylight energy consumption.
  • It mitigates the impact of future rate increases.
  • It provides energy to your home in a sustainable manner.

DO YOU QUALIFY?

  • Your home is the primary residence for you or your tenant, is occupied year-round, and is heated year-round.
  • Your home is a single-detached home, semi-detached home, mobile home on a permanent foundation, duplex, triplex, fourplex, or multiplex with its own meter.
  • Your contractor is registered with Efficiency Manitoba

DOES YOUR PROJECT QUALIFY?

  • All work must meet the Manitoba Electrical Code and any applicable local laws and regulations.
  • Your solar PV system must be designed by a person with the credentials as required by the Authorities Having Jurisdiction and installed by a person who holds an electrical contractor’s license.
  • Your solar PV system is connected to the primary residential energy meter that services your home and connected to Manitoba Hydro’s grid.
  • Your solar PV system must be new and purchased in Canada.

MAKE YOUR HOME AS ENERGY EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE

We recommend making your home as energy efficient as possible before installing your solar PV system. Improving the energy efficiency of your home can be a cost effective first step that reduces the size of solar PV system required to meet your electricity needs. If you’re not sure where to begin, a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation can help identify energy saving opportunities that increases your home’s energy efficiency. Plus, you can get a rebate through our EnerGuide Home Evaluation Rebate for completing one.

Steps to Participate

  1. CHOOSE A REGISTERED CONTRACTOR

Find out if your project is eligible, then choose a registered contractor. We recommend browsing our list of registered suppliers, getting several quotes, and checking references before making your choice. Be sure to compare the proposed design of each contractor, costs, and post-installation services.

If your preferred contractor isn’t a registered Efficiency Manitoba supplier, we can help them join our supplier network.

  2. INSTALL YOUR SOLAR PV SYSTEM

Your contractor is responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and ensuring your system complies with any municipal building code requirements before installing your solar PV system. Grid-connected solar PV system installations must comply with Manitoba Hydro’s interconnection requirements and be approved by Manitoba Hydro before starting any work. To learn more about grid-connected solar PV systems in Manitoba, visit Manitoba Hydro’s website

  3. APPLY FOR YOUR REBATE

Once your solar PV system passes final inspection, is operating, and is fully paid for, your contractor will submit the rebate application on your behalf. Then, we’ll mail your rebate cheque to the address provided on the application.

Read the Terms and Conditions for full eligibility requirements.
