LEARN HOW ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHTING UPGRADES ARE HELPING A WINNIPEG COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION SAVE
Our Small Business Program helps Manitoba businesses reduce operating costs and improve energy efficiency through affordable upgrades. As one of the May 2026 Small Business Month contest winners, Gurdwara Singh Sabha Winnipeg received a Premium Upgrade for lighting with 100% of the material and installation costs covered by Efficiency Manitoba. The upgrade is helping the organization create a brighter, more welcoming space for its community while reducing energy use and operating costs.
THE PROJECT
Gurdwara Singh Sabha Winnipeg first participated in the Small Business Program through a Basic Upgrade. During the visit, the facility received a free lighting assessment that identified opportunities for additional energy savings.
The organization later proceeded with a Premium Upgrade, which included replacing 360 fluorescent lamps and five specialty screw-in lamps with energy efficient LEDs, as well as adding four occupancy sensors throughout the facility.

The project was completed smoothly, with minimal disruption to the organization’s operations.
“We are very proud to be part of this program and thankful to everyone who worked on the project and helped complete the upgrades so smoothly,” said Balwinder.
THE SAVINGS
The lighting upgrade is expected to save more than 23,800 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, resulting in estimated energy bill savings of over $1,100 per year.
As one of the winners of our May 2026 Small Business Month contest, Gurdwara Singh Sabha Winnipeg received a $500 energy bill credit and a free Premium Upgrade. We provided an incentive of more than $25,000, covering 100% of the upgrade’s material and installation costs.
In addition to reducing electricity consumption, the new energy-efficient lighting has improved the overall brightness and appearance of the facility, creating a more welcoming space for community members and events.
“Our members were very surprised to learn that we could receive these upgrades. As a nonprofit organization, saving money every year is very important to us. The new lighting has also made our facility brighter and more beautiful, and our community is very proud of the improvements,” said Balwinder.
THE PROCESS
Participating in the Small Business Program is simple. Businesses begin with a Basic Upgrade, where free, eligible energy-saving products are installed and a free lighting and attic insulation assessment is provided to identify opportunities for additional savings. If a business moves forward with a Premium Upgrade, we provide a 70% incentive on material and labour costs, and our contracted service provider CLEAResult Canada coordinates the project from start to finish.
