An energy audit is commonly the first step in identifying key opportunities for building owners to reduce their energy consumption (and save money!).
We offer financial incentives and technical support for building owners that complete ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) Level 2 or 3 audits for eligible commercial buildings.
Through the Commercial Energy Audit Program, you’ll be able to select a consultant from our pre-qualified list to perform an energy audit at your commercial building. After the audit, you’ll receive a detailed report summarizing energy-saving opportunities for your building’s envelope, lighting, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as the Efficiency Manitoba incentive programs that are applicable to you.

For building owners interested in pursuing incentives for specific energy-saving measures related to process loads within their industrial building, you may also be eligible for our Custom Energy Solutions Program.
ASHRAE LEVELS 2 & 3
Having an ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit completed on your building can provide the following information:
Energy savings and costs analysis of practical energy efficiency measures that are aligned with your constraints and budget criteria
Potential changes to your operation and maintenance procedures
Possible major capital-intensive upgrades that would require more rigorous engineering analysis through a Level 3 audit
Selecting an ASHRAE Level 3 energy audit would provide all the above information, plus:
Greater in-depth analysis of the cost and energy savings results related to the proposed major capital-intensive upgrades
The building owner is a current Manitoba Hydro customer paying a commercial service rate.
The building is being heated primarily by electricity or natural gas supplied by Manitoba Hydro.
The application must be approved prior to on-site assessment work.
Steps to Participate
SUBMIT AN APPLICATION
Submit an online application. Applications must be submitted by the building owner or building owner’s representative.
RECEIVE APPROVAL & SELECT A PRE-QUALIFIED CONSULTANT
We’ll review your application and send your approval by email. After your application is accepted into the program, log into myEM and select your energy auditor from the list of pre-qualified consultants. You’ll have six months to complete the energy audit for your commercial building.
COMPLETE THE ENERGY AUDIT
Once the energy audit is complete and conforms to the Program Requirements guidelines, the building owner or energy auditor will log into myEM and upload the Draft Energy Audit Report.
MEET TO REVIEW THE ENERGY AUDIT REPORT
Once our team has reviewed and approved the Draft Energy Audit Report, the consultant will present the Final Energy Audit Report to the building owner and review the energy efficiency opportunities. After this meeting is held, we’ll require the Final Energy Audit Report signed by the energy auditor, meeting minutes, and a copy of a paid invoice to be uploaded via myEM.
RECEIVE YOUR INCENTIVE
Once we review and approve the program deliverables, we’ll issue the incentive payment to the specified payee.

When it comes to keeping your swine and other livestock warm, consider upgrading to heat pads. We provide a $75 incentive per crate when you upgrade from heat lamps to heat pads.

Solar PV systems provide energy to your home and business in a sustainable manner. They can help reduce your monthly energy bill, mitigate the impact of future rate increases, and increase the value of your property.
SOLAR FOR YOUR HOME
We offer a rebate of $0.50 per direct current (DC) watt installed on homes connected to Manitoba Hydro’s grid, up to a maximum of 10 kW and $5,000 per home.
We’re offering a rebate of $0.50 per direct current (DC) watt on all solar photovoltaic (PV) system sizes installed on businesses connected to Manitoba Hydro’s grid.
More and more Manitobans are interested in using solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to power their homes and businesses. And it’s no wonder why! When it comes to renewable energy sources, the sun is high on the list.

Rebates are available for all solar photovoltaic (PV) systems sizes. Systems less than 100 kW don’t require pre-approval; all systems 100 kW and larger require pre-approval from Efficiency Manitoba. You and your contractor can proceed with installing your new solar PV system. You’ll have 12 months to complete your project and submit completion documentation to be eligible for a rebate.
SUBMIT COMPLETION DOCUMENTS
You and your contractor can submit the completion documents to Efficiency Manitoba. You’ll sign the completion declaration and submit all invoices to confirm the solar PV system is installed and operational.
RECEIVE YOUR REBATE
We’ll review these documents and finalize your rebate. A post-installation verification may be required prior to finalizing your rebate.

COMPREHENSIVE HOME RENOVATION PROJECTS WITH DEEP ENERGY SAVINGS
If you’re planning an extensive home renovation that will significantly reduce your home’s energy usage, your project could qualify for rebates through our Home Energy Retrofits.
Each home is unique, so you’ll need to have an EnerGuide home evaluation completed by an energy advisor. They’ll identify energy saving opportunities that are suitable for your home, and you’ll receive a recommended upgrade report to help plan your major retrofit and achieve substantial energy savings.
HOMEOWNER REBATE
You can receive a rebate of $75 per gigajoule (GJ) saved up to the typical new home GJ rating and $150 per GJ saved beyond the typical new home GJ rating.
Your rebate is based on your home’s total annual energy reduction achieved through your renovation project. Check out our rebate explainer for more information and to learn how to calculate your rebate.
STACKING BONUS
We offer a $250 stacking bonus if you’re already participating in both our Home Energy Retrofits and the Canada Greener Homes Grant. The Canada Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applicants.

There are many benefits to undertaking a home energy retrofit:
Significantly reduced energy bills and long-term cost savings
Contact a service organization that serves your area. They’ll send an energy advisor to conduct an EnerGuide energy efficiency evaluation on your home.
APPLY AND PLAN
Send us your EnerGuide evaluation documents and tell us a bit about your planned retrofit project. You must apply before you or your contractor start the work.
COMPLETE YOUR PROJECT
Once the work is done, your energy advisor will conduct a final evaluation and measure the energy savings of your retrofit project.
GET A REBATE
Send us your final documents and we’ll give you a rebate based on the total energy savings of your retrofit project.
It’s a residential, detached, duplex, or triplex home.
You’re the owner of the home.
The home is occupied 12 months per year (seasonal residences aren’t eligible).
The home uses electricity or natural gas supplied by Manitoba Hydro.

We work in partnership with Manitoba Hydro to offer financing for energy efficiency upgrades. Qualifying homeowners may be eligible for financing to assist with the cost of home energy retrofits through Manitoba Hydro’s Home Energy Efficiency Loan.
CANADA GREENER HOMES INITIATIVE

Air Source Heat Pumps
Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) provide efficient heating and cooling in one unit. They can reduce your electric heating costs by up to 30%.
An ASHP uses a small amount of energy to pull the heat from the outdoor air to warm your home. In the summer months, it works in reverse to push warm air outside to cool your home. This makes them an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly electric heating and cooling system.

CHOOSE A REGISTERED EFFICIENCY MANITOBA CONTRACTOR & APPLY
First, find out if your project is eligible, then choose a registered contractor. We recommend browsing our list of registered contractors, getting several quotes, and checking references before making your choice. When comparing quotes, be sure to compare each contractor’s proposed design and pay attention to the heat pump heating capacity compared to the square footage of your home. Once you’ve chosen a contractor, they’ll work with you to submit an application. You’ll need to agree to the terms and conditions at this time. Make sure you verify that the air source heat pump selected is on our eligible product list.
Contractor tools and resources are included below to ensure proper sizing.
GET APPROVAL FOR YOUR PROJECT
We’ll issue a written approval via email to you and your contractor and from there, you’ll have one year to purchase and install your air source heat pump. Be sure to receive approval before purchasing materials or starting any work.
COMPLETE YOUR PROJECT
Once your heat pump is installed and operational, work with your contractor to submit the completion documents and all applicable permits and invoices. We’ll review these documents and then send you your rebate. We may contact you to schedule a post-installation inspection of your heat pump prior to issuing your rebate.
The heat pump must be included on the searchable product list from Natural Resources Canada.
Your heat pump is replacing an existing electric furnace/boiler, electric baseboards, or natural gas heating system. Homeowners who are converting from fuel oil or propane are also eligible for incentives.
