BRIGHT SPACES, LOWER MAINTENANCE COSTS & ENERGY BILL SAVINGS
Our Small Business Program helps Manitoba businesses reduce operating costs and improve energy efficiency through affordable upgrades. When Colin Darling, Owner and Head Coach of CrossFit Steinbach, learned that fluorescent lighting would eventually be phased out, he began exploring a more efficient and reliable lighting solution for his facility. Through our Small Business Program, CrossFit Steinbach upgraded its lighting system with energy-efficient LED linear lamps, creating a better-lit training environment while reducing energy use and maintenance costs.
THE PROJECT
CrossFit Steinbach first participated in the Small Business Program through a free Basic Upgrade. During the visit, the facility received a free lighting assessment that identified opportunities for additional energy savings.
The business later received lighting upgrades as part of the Premium Upgrade, delivered by the program’s third-party service provider CLEAResult® Canada. This included replacing 155 fluorescent lamps with energy-efficient LED linear lamps throughout the building.

THE SAVINGS
The lighting upgrade is expected to save more than 45,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, resulting in estimated energy bill savings of over $2,250 per year.
Through the Premium Upgrade, Efficiency Manitoba covered 70% of the material and installation costs, providing an incentive of over $7,000 toward the project.
In addition to reducing electricity consumption, the new LED lighting has improved the overall visibility throughout the building.
“Honestly, the biggest difference for us has been the increase in the brightness of our facility, and a significant reduction in maintenance and replacement expenses for bulbs,” said Darling.
More than a year after installation, CrossFit Steinbach hasn’t had to replace a single bulb, helping reduce maintenance requirements while keeping the facility brightly lit for members.
“The replacement program was a game-changer for us, because footing the entire bill ourselves would not have been possible,” said Darling.
THE PROCESS
Participating in the Small Business Program is simple. Businesses begin with a Basic Upgrade, where eligible energy-saving products are installed at no cost and a free lighting and attic insulation assessment is provided to identify opportunities for additional savings. If your business moves forward with a Premium Upgrade for a lighting and/or attic insulation retrofit, we provide a 70% incentive towards the material and installation costs and our third-party service provider CLEAResult® Canada coordinates the project from start to finish.
