HELPING THE CITY OF MORDEN STAY ACTIVE WITH BRIGHTER LIGHTING
Whether it’s an arena, recreation centre, or community gathering place, our Business Lighting Program helps organizations lower energy use while enhancing the spaces where Manitobans come together. With our help and excellent work from True North Electric, the City of Morden’s Access Event Centre was able to complete energy-efficient lighting upgrades and take meaningful steps toward sustainability.
THE PROJECT
When the Access Event Centre set out to improve the lighting in its rinks, they turned to their trusted contractor, True North Electric, and our Business Lighting Program to help make the project happen. Working together, they upgraded dozens of interior rink lighting fixtures to modern LEDs, creating a brighter, more energy-efficient facility while reducing electricity consumption and maintenance costs.
From local hockey games and skating lessons to community events, the Access Event Centre plays an important role in bringing people together. Energy efficiency upgrades like this help ensure those spaces remain affordable to operate while continuing to provide a great experience for everyone who walks through the doors.

Responsive support and a straightforward application process helped make the project easy to complete, allowing the Access Event Centre team to focus on delivering a better experience for facility users.
THE SAVINGS
Because of their lighting upgrades, the Access Event Centre is expected to save more than 126,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity every year, resulting in $6,300 in estimated yearly savings on their energy bills. Additionally, they received an incentive of over $101,000 to complete their upgrades, which included our customer bonus.
THE PROCESS
Our Business Lighting Program is designed to make upgrading to energy-efficient lighting simple. Business owners can apply through their myEM account or have a lighting supplier manage the process on their behalf. Before the project moves forward, we review the application and help customers make informed decisions before committing to the upgrade.
Ryan from True North Electric handled the application for the Access Event Centre, making the process seamless from start to finish. Once the application was approved, the installation team upgraded the existing rink lighting to energy-efficient LEDs before submitting the final paperwork for the incentive. For Chris, having responsive support throughout the project made the experience easy and stress-free.
