HOME ENERGY REPORTS

SAVE MORE ON YOUR ENERGY BILL

We’re committed to helping you reduce your energy consumption and lower your energy bills. Understanding how your energy use compares to similar homes is a great first step to save energy, money, and the environment. If your home has been selected to receive our Home Energy Reports, you can easily explore energy-saving recommendations tailored just for you.

What’s the purpose of a Home Energy Report?

Home Energy Reports provide you with personalized insights on your energy use as well as information and tips to lower your energy bills. Our goal is to help you understand how your home is using energy so you can make informed decisions on how to reduce your energy consumption.

Why am I getting a Home Energy Report?

Home Energy Reports were sent to a random selection of homes. Selected participants can expect to receive reports by email and mail throughout the year.

Why am I not getting a Home Energy Report?

Home Energy Reports were sent to a random selection of homes. Since your home wasn’t selected, you won’t receive a Home Energy Report at this time. However, we plan to continue to review the participant list, and your home may be included in the future. We don’t currently have an option for homes to opt in to receiving reports.

How often will I receive a Home Energy Report?

You’ll receive up to four paper reports throughout the calendar year. If you provided your email address to Manitoba Hydro or in your personal dashboard accessible through your report, you’ll also receive monthly reports via email.

Why am I receiving both an email and a paper report?

This program includes both emails and paper reports to help balance awareness and cost effectiveness of the program, as well as to increase accessibility. You may receive up to four paper reports each year as well as monthly email reports. If you prefer to receive only email reports or only paper reports, you can update your preferences by visiting your personal dashboard (either by clicking the link in your email report or scanning the QR code) and then navigating to “Alerts & Preferences” at the top-right corner of the page.

What’s the definition of an energy-efficient home in the Home Energy Report?

Energy-efficient homes are the highest performing homes in Manitoba. They rank within the top 30% in terms of energy efficiency compared to similar homes in the province.

How do you select the top saving tips for me?

The tips and recommendations you received are based on your usage patterns and appliance profile. These are the tips the algorithm selects that will have the highest cost savings potential for you. To get even more tailored tips for your individual usage, you can fill out the “home profile survey” to update your home profile through your personal dashboard.

How did you choose the homes used in my comparison?

We determine which homes are like yours using several factors including square footage, heating type, and postal code.

What makes a home “efficient” or “average?”

The definition of efficient homes compared to average homes is based on energy usage within a specific comparison group. Efficient homes are defined as the top 30% of customers within this comparison group who use the least amount of energy. Average homes are defined as the middle 30% to 50% of energy users within the same comparison group.

Is my home energy use being shared with other customers?

No; these reports are for your use only. The comparison information is compiled anonymously to create your report. Your personal information and home characteristics aren’t shared with others.

How do I stop receiving these reports?

You can opt out by visiting your personal dashboard (either by clicking the link in your email report or scanning the QR code on your paper report) and then navigating to “Alerts & Preferences” at the top-right corner of the page. You can also contact us by email at energyteam@efficiencyMB.ca or by phone at 1-844-944-8181 and we can opt you out of the program.

How do I correct my home data?

You can update your home profile by filling out your “home profile survey” either by clicking the link in your email report or scanning the QR code on your paper report. You can also contact us by email at energyteam@efficiencyMB.ca or by phone at 1-844-944-8181 and we can help you update your home data.

How do you know what appliances I’ve used?

We work with a contracted service provider that uses a patented AI machine learning algorithm to analyze your electricity and natural gas meter data to estimate how much energy your major appliances consume. This is commonly called “disaggregation.”

What’s “disaggregation”?

Disaggregation is the process that takes your meter data and identifies the individual appliance types within your home that are using energy. Items like air conditioners and heating systems leave distinct “fingerprints” in your energy use data; with suitable software algorithms, the energy usage of these appliances can be identified and estimated.

How will filling out my “home profile survey” improve my energy breakdown?

Filling out your “home profile survey” will improve the accuracy of the breakdown of your home. By understanding more about your home and the appliances you own, the model will know what to look for as it works to break down your energy usage.

How did you get access to my Manitoba Hydro data?

Efficiency Manitoba may collect information from Manitoba Hydro, including personal information, for the purpose of delivering energy efficiency programs. This is enabled by the Efficiency Manitoba Act.

Where is my information being stored?

All information used as part of Home Energy Reports is securely stored and processed in Canada. This is a contractual obligation between us and our service provider.

What if I have more questions?

If you have more questions, you can contact us by email at energyteam@efficiencyMB.ca or by phone at 1-844-944-8181.
